If good governance is made by demeanor alone, Jonathan would probably be the best President.
As Goodluck Jonathan clocks 58 today, Naijaloaded looks back at his time in office.
His beaming appearance and very calm conduct made him a fan favorite in Nigeria: this was further heightened when he humbly conceded defeat after losing the recent Presidential election. His benevolence made comparison by his supporters with Nelson Mandela and Lee Kuan Yew.
However, this is just one side of the faction.
Many in Nigeria still believe Jonathan was a completely mess and a bad president.
His handling of Boko Haram in particular has come under scrutiny even from outside Nigeria.
Under Jonathan’s government, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terrorist organization based in northeast Nigeria.
President Muhammad Buhari, inherited from his predecessor, a disjointed government accused of many misdemeanor including corruption and mismanagement of funds for war fare.
Yet, Jonathan recorded many achievements during his tenor, most notably the SURE-P program.
