The idea of the name Nigeria as conceived by the then colonial masters Has an iota of unity in it whether we agree or not. The amalgamation
Of the protectorates in 1914 showed that Nigeria is one unified whole.
Analysis of the growth and development of the entity called Nigeria After independence shows that the country has not really achieved a
Great deal after being released from long term colonial bondage.
It is However obvious that the colonial bondage is even far better than National suffering and smilling situation that nigerians have been Facing since the time independence. Am afraid it will continue like That until we have those who are part of the nationalist movement out Of the national power place. Infact, anyone above 60years old in Nigeria today are the problem we have in this country because they Contributed a great deal to the national backwardness we are all Experiencing today.
Obasanjo contributed over 8years to it, buhari Contributed 3 years to it, babangida contributed his own quota and Many more.
As a nation, we are where we are today because we did not believe in The national identity called Nigeria. The reason political office Holders will always divert public funds is due to their “i don’t care Mentality”. Everyone is acting in the interest of their individual Self, family members and probably their ethnic group.
In this country, a typical yoruba man does not really care about the Hausa man, likewise the igbo man will always want to cheat on yoruba Man. Then, how can we develop as a nation. Taking a deep look at Developed nations in the world today, their technological, economical And political progress can be traced to their unified national Character.
As youths, we definitely want this nation to live up to her Expectation as “giant of Africa”. Even though youths have not been Given the opportunity to hold sensitive positions in the country but Our good deeds to our fellow citizens count a great deal.
The moment a yoruba man starts seeing himself as a Nigerian and not a Yoruba man, the moment an igbo man starts seeing himself as a Nigerian Is when the sinking ship of unified Nigeria will begin to resurrect.
That is when a yoruba man will not think evil of the hausaman and the Igbo man because he sees them as a fellow Nigerian brother whom he
Must be in good terms with to achieve a better Nigeria and that is Exactly the change we need.
Meanwhile, it behooves on us as youths to see ourselves as Nigerians And offer good deeds to our fellow countrymen irrespective of their
Tribe, language, religion and ethnic group because that is where the Change starts!
