A huge security operation will be mounted at Wembley stadium with fans facing enchanced checks for England’s friendly match against France on Tuesday. Standard.co.uk reports.
Armed officers will be on duty to protect the 90,000-seater stadium and supporters will undergo thorough security searches at the gates.
Fans have been told to arrive early as the extra checks mean it will take longer to get to their seats.
The FA said there will be an “increased presence” of police and security officers, though there is not thought to be any threat against the ground.
There was speculation the match would be called off but a decision was taken to go ahead, after the British government held talks with the FA and its French counterpart, the Fédération Française de Football.
Home secretary Theresa May said playing the match shows that “the terrorists will not win” while FA chairman Greg Dyke said:
“We will use the opportunity to pay our respects to all affected and also to express our solidarity with the people of France.”
However, some fans were still calling for the game to be cancelled, saying it was “not worth the risk”.
Do you support the idea of England vs France going as planned despite the attacks in Paris?
