The wife of the governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode seems to have bitten the bug of what is fast becoming hallmark of the Ambode administration. Making empty promises.
On the 3rd September, 2015 at the Bagauda Kalto Press Center, Alausa, Ikeja, the wife of the governor in a pre conference press briefings highlighted high points of the annual conference of the Council of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) year 2015.
In her briefings, she mentioned the theme of the conference which is “Relevance in Economic Turbulence” she also revealed that the body is expecting over 1,500 participants that will each pay N50,000.
She also promised that the conference would provide new insights into establishing and maintaining good quality life which promises to be an enriching experience for all participants.
Equally, in the the course of the briefings, she emphasised that the event which would hold at the Eko Hotels and Suites will be ‘streamed live’ on the Internet to afford social media enthusiasts the opportunity to be part of the even from anywhere in the world. For us, this means those who cannot afford the N50,000 participant fee, but could afford data on their devices could still be part of the programme. This is not so.
It is very sad to observe that the promise by the wife of the governor of Lagos State to stream this event live was not fulfilled. Our members, drawn from across the country, had been put on notice to follow this program but alas, the programme was not aired anywhere except on the Lagos Television which showed the opening programme.
The 2015 event is the first Mrs. Bolanle Ambode would host in her capacity as the First Lady of Lagos State, and in terms of coverage, is a flop. It is on record that the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Information in 2014 live streamed this event which we believe is what informed the promise at this year’s event.
We are however disappointed that we could not follow the event as we are made to believe.
Efforts to register our displeasure with Mrs. Bolanle Ambode through the Public Relation Officer attached to her office by the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri was unsuccessful.
We expect this program to continue to improve, and not falling in any measurable standard. We hope the organisers would keep this in mind.
