Abuja - Nigerian multi award winning record
producer, musician and songwriter, Michael Ajereh,
popularly called Don Jazzy, has joined American
celebrities in the online ice bucket challenge for
charity in the U.S.
The American celebrities included TV Queen Oprah
Winfrey, Bill Gate and NBA Player Lebron James.
Others are singers Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and
Justin Bieber as well as Facebook inventor Mark
Zuckerberg and Actress Kerry Washington who is
married to a Nigerian Nnamdi Asemogha.
The online challenge, which has gone viral, has so
far raised $15.6 million.
The challenge, #ALSIceBucketChallenge, entails
getting wet with buckets of ice cube or water to
raise funds and create awareness on the disease
known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
ALS, often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is
a progressive neuron-degenerative disease that
affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
The challenge was to dare anyone pour a bucket of
ice water over their heads within 24 hours or else
donate some money to the ALS Trust Fund.
After the challenge, the person involved can
nominate three other people to take up the
challenge or donate more money.
Don Jazzy has nominated other celebrities,
including Dr Sid, D’Prince, Korede Bello, Reekado
Banks, Di’Ja as well as Banky W, Iyanya, Davido,
Wizkid, Steve Babaeko and Obi Asika.
Jazzy was nominated by Dencia, Cameroonian/
Nigerian singer and maker of controversial
‘whitenicious’ body cream.
Dencia also nominated other Nigerian celebs
including the team at BellaNaija, Genevieve Nnaji,
2Face Idibia, D’banj, Waje, Wizkid, and Tiwa Savage,
after getting herself wet with ice water.
