SCHURRLE: COME BACK STRONGER

Andre Schurrle was pleased we managed to end
our season on a winning note. The German's ninth
goal since joining the Blues last summer levelled
the score at Cardiff yesterday, and the second-half
substitute's positive impact on the game continued
when he teed up Fernando Torres for the winner
soon after.
Schurrle's equaliser arrived after Cesar Azpilicueta
had been foiled twice in quick succession, and the
23-year-old was clearly surprised to find his
team-mate in such an advanced position.
'Yeah I have to ask him, he was two metres in
front of the goal,' said Schurrle. 'It was a good
assist from him! He did well and the ball came to
me perfectly.'
Manchester City's victory in midweek ended any
lingering hopes we had of lifting the title, but
although there was little to play for against a team
that had already been relegated, we still showed
resilience and quality in South Wales to come away
with the three points despite trailing for much of
the game.
Schurrle was pleased with the manner in which the
season ended and hopes that will stand us in good
stead for the next campaign.
'It was very important to finish well. We can go
into the summer break with a win for the fans.
'We wanted to win the Premier League and we
wanted to win the Champions League. We were
almost a winner but this is nothing and I'm sure
we'll come back very strong next season.'
The season has undoubtedly been one of collective
development under the returning Jose Mourinho,
but there has also been plenty of individual
improvement throughout the squad. Schurrle, who
joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen last June,
gave an assessment of how he felt his first season
in England had gone.
'I think it was quite okay,' he considered. 'I had a
few problems to adapt to the league but I think it's
normal if you come as a young player from
another country. I think I can come back even
stronger and better next season.'
